OUR ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
We want to offer our guests a safe and memorable experience while minimizing our environmental impact, taking social responsibility, and contributing to a vibrant mountain destination. Through concrete measures, local collaborations, and environmental certifications, we are working step by step towards a more sustainable operation. Here you can read more about what this means in practice.
We are certifying with Green Key
Storsätra Fjällhotell is on its way to being certified with Green Key – an international eco-label for the tourism industry that sets high standards for sustainability. Green Key is awarded to establishments that actively work to reduce their environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future. It’s not just about saving energy and water, but also about reducing waste, using environmentally friendly products, informing guests about sustainability efforts, and creating strong engagement among staff. The certification is based on a comprehensive set of criteria that are reviewed annually and encourage continuous improvement. By certifying with Green Key, we want to make it easier for our guests to make a conscious choice – and at the same time, become even better at taking care of the unique mountain environment we are part of.
Together for Sustainable Tourism
We are active members of the Grövelsjöfjällen Tourist Association – a local collaboration between accommodations, guides, and businesses in the area. Together, we work on nature-improving measures aimed at reducing the impact of outdoor activities and tourism, while enhancing the area's attractiveness for future generations. Through everything from trail maintenance to joint information efforts, we aim to contribute to the long-term, careful, and sustainable development of the Grövelsjön area.
At Storsätra Fjällhotell, there is

Climate-smart energy use
Our heating is mainly provided by geothermal energy – an environmentally friendly alternative that significantly reduces our carbon emissions compared to fossil energy sources. We complement this with targeted measures such as twilight relays, motion-controlled lighting, and a gradual switch to LED lights throughout the hotel. By thinking long-term in our investments, we strive to reduce our energy consumption without compromising the comfort of our guests.
Responsibility for waste and resources
We sort all our waste into fractions and have special routines for separating food waste. Our goal is to reduce the amount of residual waste as much as possible, while encouraging both staff and guests to contribute to effective recycling. We use environmentally friendly cleaning agents and laundry products, and continuously work to reduce resource consumption in our daily operations.
Sustainable food in the restaurant
Our restaurant is currently KRAV-certified and will be included in the Green Key certification once it is in place. But for us, it is more than a label – it is about choosing ingredients with care. We prioritize organic, locally produced, and sustainability-labeled products to the greatest extent possible. It is important for the environment, but also for taste, animal welfare, and the people who produce the food.
Transport and future solutions
To make it easier for our guests to travel sustainably, we offer charging stations for electric cars and plug-in hybrids. We are also reviewing our own transportation and vehicles to gradually switch to more environmentally friendly alternatives. Our sustainability work is not something that happens once – it is an ongoing process where we constantly look for improvements.

A sustainable workplace
We believe that a sustainable hotel starts with a sustainable work environment. For us, this means creating a safe, inclusive, and developmental workplace where all employees thrive and have the opportunity to grow. We offer secure employment with collective agreements, a good working environment, and clear routines – but also space for community, participation, and engagement. Our seasonal employees receive support in everything from housing to introduction to the area, and we strive to create continuity in our teams over time. Through education, feedback, and joint activities, we build a strong work culture where sustainability is something we carry together.
